Visiting the Indianapolis Area

Late-summer begins to yield to fall, and with it comes a whole slate of ways to explore and experience Indianapolis. From the heart of downtown Indy, to nearby suburbs, and a wide range of attractions to visit, this region of Indiana shines at it’s best and brightest this time of year.

Plan your visit to the Indianapolis area and enjoy exploring this rich, vibrant, and never disappointing area. From exceptional attractions like the National Art Museum of Sport, and Eagle Creek Reservoir, to a selection of the state’s premier universities – your stay in the Indy area won’t let you down.

Make your way to the Indiana Convention Center for Gen Con 2016. From August 4th through 6th, explore this popular gaming convention. Whether you prefer board games, quest games, or turn-based card games, Gen Con 2016 is the place to be. Check out the Gen Con Film Festival, the Cosplay Contest – dress like your favorite comic character! – it all wraps up with the Winter Enchantment Dance.

Be sure to experience one of Indiana’s most fun events this year when you take the family to the Indiana State Fair 2016. You can find the Indiana State Fairgrounds just north of downtown Indy, along 38th Street, between Keystone Avenue and College Avenue. The Indiana State Fair brings joy to all members of the community starting on August 5th, and ending on August 21st. Make the short drive in from nearby Plainfield for a fun-filled day.

Not far to the southwest from Indianapolis is Mooresville. Make your way into this charming city on August 7th through 9th for their annual Old Settlers Festival. Pioneer Park near downtown Mooresville is the host site for this celebration, which honors some of the area’s earliest residents. Make the short drive in from nearby Martinsville.

Northeast of downtown Indianapolis, you’ll find the welcoming city of Muncie. Visit Muncie over the weekend of August 12th through 14th for their annual Muncie Bike Fest. Presented by Cardinal Greenways, Muncie Bike Fest is one of the biggest cycling celebrations in the region. On the 12th, take part in the Critical Mass, essentially a large community bike ride, and on the 14th, the event concludes with the Muncie Grand Prix Criterium Race in downtown.
