Family Fun with Science, Art & History
Hannah Lindahl Children’s Museum
If your family has a longing for learning, Indiana is your answer. Children’s museums with a focus on science, art, and history are scattered throughout the Hoosier State.
During your Indiana family vacation, head straight for the Children's Museum of Indianapolis – the largest children’s museum in the world. Host to more than one million annual visitors, the Children's Museum of Indianapolis is a 472,900-square-foot discovery center established in 1925 – making it the fourth oldest children’s museum on the globe.
Let the kids explore the five-level Indianapolis museum for exhibits like “National Geographic: Treasures of the Earth” on the lower level, North America’s largest water clock on the main floor, and the fourth floor’s indoor carousel – a National Historic Landmark. The Indianapolis children’s museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. – so make sure you stop by during your time in Indianapolis.
Other Indiana museums include the Hannah Lindahl Children’s Museum near Merrillville, the Evansville Museum of Arts & Science in Evansville, and the Children’s Science & Technology Museum near Vincennes.
Indiana’s history and art museums are kid-friendly as well. The Westchester Township Historical Museum is located in historic Brown Mansion in Chesterton, while Ball State University in Muncie is home to the Ball State Planetarium and Observatory and David Owsley Museum of Art.
More art museums await the little artist in your family. Set in Elkhart, the Midwest Museum of American Art is a 25,000-square-foot art museum, while the Carnegie Center for Art & History is located near Clarksville.
